About DeCSS

DeCSS is a utility for stripping Cascading Style Sheet tags from an HTML page. It has no relationship whatsoever to encryption, copy protection, movies, software freedom, oppressive industry cartels, Web site witch hunts, or any other bad things that could get you in trouble.

You can read more about the motives behind the development of DeCSS here. The original article about DeCSS can be found at http://www.pigdog.org/decss/.

Making a Mirror

Please download the package and redistribute it as much as possible. The download package includes a simple HTML page and images to make it easy to mirror this distribution.

If for some reason you can't mirror the distribution, please feel free to put the "DeCSS Now!" button on your page to show your support.

DeCSS Now!

Just add this fancy HTML to your Web page:

<p align="center"><a href="http://www.pigdog.org/decss/"><img border="0" alt="DeCSS Now!" width="100" height="42" src="http://www.pigdog.org/images/decss-now.png"></a></p>

Download

The current version of DeCSS is 0.06. There are two downloadable packages available:

  • decss.tar.gz: a tar'red, gzip'ped version for GNU/Linux and other Unix-like platforms
  • decss.zip: a zip'ped version for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT and Windows 2000

[NOTE: If you want to mirror DeCSS, you should probably download both versions.]

Installation

To install DeCSS, download the one or both of the packages linked above. Use the appropriate decompression utility (zip or tar + gzip) to decompress the package. Then, read the README file that is included for further instructions.
